Research Capability Building – Series 1

“Revitalizing Innovative Research in SPCM:

A Tool for Sustaining a Climate of Excellence”

Cognizant of the mandate of the law on quality education which asserts that “xxx…education should advance the frontiers of knowledge through research work, and apply technology gained for improving the quality of human life and responding effectively to changing societal needs and conditions.” (Sarmiento, 2009, Education Law Art.1 Sec. 10. d). St. Paul College of Makati (SPCM) tries its best to actively respond to this national challenge. Education Law also provides through its creation of article for Accreditation the minimum standard for education institutions for maintaining its level excellence stressed in the highly developed Academic, Research, and Community Service programs.

Thus, it is timely to revitalize the research innovativeness of SPCM, more specifically those who are engaged in the most challenging and dynamically changing profession – teaching. Research will afford teachers the ability to read the signs of the times and will allow them to attune themselves to the spirit of the genre. Thus, these series of in – service training for research development have been conducted to equip and advance teacher researchers of SPCM. These initiatives are in consonance with the advancing of Matheson (2000) who asserts that;

“Teaching at all levels must become a research-based profession in which teachers are equipped to reflect on and learn from their professional practice to share their knowledge effectively, across professional networks, and to work in partnership with other academic researchers.”

A total of 17 participants composed of the following: faculty who conducted researches, teach research classes, and department heads attended the said training-workshop.

We felt privileged to be under the tutelage of Dr. Alfredo M. Dimaano as resource speaker/facilitator. Dr. Dimaano is a well recognized resource person in the field of research in various Higher Education Institutions in the country.

The ultimate goal, therefore, of these research endeavors is to develop the culture of research at SPCM making research as an essential tool for sustaining the climate of excellence invoking that “Every SPCM-Paulinian, a Researcher”.
